Inspired by Victor Hugo’s “Toilers of the Sea”, Song is a series of selections from a song cycle by composer/performer James Tyson, theatre programmer for Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, Wales. The songs tell the story of the performers’ relationships to the sea and of a desire to achieve greatness while overcoming huge obstacles. The work-in-progress demonstration of SONG in Halifax will be the world premiere of these songs, the company’s Canadian debut and will serve as a preview for Ranters, before developing it into a full production for their Cardiff and Melbourne audiences.
